Hey Victorians, are you tired of being left out of the 10c recycling programs? Watching your friends in the other states collecting cash for their cans while you’re getting nothing for yours.
Well, that feeling is about to end! From the 1st November 2023, the state of Victoria is launching the Container Deposit Scheme, and we can already hear you cheering about it!
The new container recycling scheme, called CDS Vic, allows most drink containers between 150ml and 3L to be returned for recycling in exchange for 10 cents. Finally, it's the Containers for Change Victoria program we've all been hoping for!

The Need to Know
Date: The Victorian CDS scheme starts on 1st November 2023.
Eligible Containers: Most drink containers between 150ml and 3L will be eligible.
Reward: Return eligible containers and get 10 cents back.
Spread the Love: Charity organisations can also benefit from this scheme.

How the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme will work
Across Victoria, over 600 refund collection points will be available, making recycling within reach no matter if you're in Melbourne, Moe or Mildura.
- You purchase a drink.
- You return your empty drink container to a refund point. Find your nearest.
- You receive a 10-cent refund for every eligible container you return. You can choose to keep the funds or donate to a participating charity, community group, environmental group, educational organisation or sports group.
- Your returned container is given a new lease on life. The material is recycled and remanufactured into a new product, saving it from landfill or littering the environment.
What Containers can you return for 10c in Victoria?
We're talking plastic soda bottles, glass beer bottles, canned fizzy drinks and alcohol, and even those little juice cartons. Get ready to give them a second life!
