Whether it’s note or industrial paper, magazines, cereal boxes, even corrugated cardboard, any clean and dry paper or cardboard you have lying around the house or workspace is perfect for this recycling service.

Shredded paper can also go in our paper and cardboard recycling bins, however, it’s best practice to place the shredded paper in a bag or container to stop it from becoming litter or contaminating other recyclable materials.

When you recycle paper and cardboard, you’re conserving resources and reducing the environmental impact that comes from paper production. Recycled paper and cardboard are broken down and reprocessed into new paper and cardboard products, meaning we can not only extend the lifecycle of paper fibres but also reduce the demand for virgin paper products, which saves energy and water. Pretty cool, right?

Short answer: not really. Shredded paper is too small to be sorted properly and often ends up causing more harm than good at recycling facilities. Your best bet? Check your council’s guide—some will let you put it in the green or red bin, depending on your local setup.

In this case, you guessed right, usually no. The green bin is for food scraps and garden waste, not cardboard. If your cardboard is clean and dry, pop it in the yellow/blue recycling bin. It’s always about the council - we know!

Clean cardboard goes in the yellow or blue bin. Just make sure it’s flattened and dry. If it’s soaked, greasy, or food-covered, it’s better off in the red or green bin. Always make sure to check your local council guidelines just in case.
